Coombs' first major solo exhibit in the Southeast includes 21 new paintings based on the sky.  For the artist, the word Untethered encompasses the feelings of freedom, joy and lightness while being present in viewing (and creating) interesting cloud patterns and shapes.  Mesmerized by the colors of the sky at golden hour, the artist seeks to conjure a peaceful emotional space, as well as interpret a physical one.  Soft metallic backgrounds in silvery pearl, gold and blue acrylic stand in for sunlight and provide a soothing visual respite to rhythmic palette knife marks that indicate clouds, meticulously applied.
